The Trenton Times published the following article on January 19th regarding a public forum that will be hosted by Trenton City Council on January 30th.
Trenton council to hold a public forum on Glen Cairn Arms redevelopment project
By Erin Duffy/The Times of Trenton
on January 19, 2013 at 8:10 AMOn the suggestion of Councilwoman Kathy McBride, a public forum on the proposed Glen Cairn Arms redevelopment project will be held Jan. 30.
At Thursday night’s council meeting, McBride said residents needed another chance
to hear details on the project and get important questions answered. Thomas Edison State College is asking council to approve a land transfer allowing them to knock down the apartment complex so they can replace it with a new building for the college’s nursing program. In exchange, the college would pay a onetime fee of $300,000 to mitigate future tax losses on the land, which would become tax-exempt if owned by TESC, a state school. While many resident and civic leaders have said the TESC deal represents an opportunity to rid the city of a notorious eyesore, others worry the city could lose out on years of taxes if the deal is struck.
Council voted to introduce the land deal Thursday night and is expected to take a final vote on Feb. 7. TESC president George Pruitt gave a presentation before council on Tuesday night that sparked hours of discussion over the plan.
The public meeting on Jan. 30 will include members of city council, the city administration and representatives from Thomas Edison State College, according to a notice sent out yesterday.
The meeting will start at 4:30 p.m. in the City Hall atrium.
