Mayor’s salary, Glen Cairns to go to vote Thursday

TRENTON — Trenton City Council will look to put two major issues to a vote at next Thursday’s council meeting.

The first is the matter of Mayor Tony Mack’s salary. The indicted mayor is facing the possibility of having his $126,460 salary reduced to $65,000 if the council votes 5-2 or higher to override a Mack veto. When the issue was previously addressed, Councilwoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson was the swing vote as she initially voted in favor of putting the measure forth to cut his salary, but voted against actually cutting Mack’s salary.

The second issue is the matter of council selling the cite of the old Glen Cairn Arms apartment building on West State Street to the Thomas Edison State College for $300,000 with the understanding that the college will not pay property taxes and the college will cover the expenses of demolishing the blighted building.

Other matters that came out in Tuesday’s council meeting were the financial terms of the city’s settlement with Trenton police dispatchers. The city settled the 2008 discrimination case for $375,000.
