The teen was at Rivera Learning Community, an alternative city middle school, just after 8:30 a.m. Jan. 28 when she began arguing with another school employee.
“The victim stepped in between the two people who were arguing, and she was struck,” Lt. Steve Varn said.
Police allege the 14-year-old belted the 44-year-old in the face with her fist.
Officers were called out, and arrived to find the teen being held by school staff. She was issued a juvenile petition for aggravated assault upon a school member and taken to the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center.
Police declined to identify the school employee who was hit.
