Trenton police, Womanspace seek volunteers for Domestic Victim Response Team

on February 06, 2013 at 8:20 AMTRENTON – The Trenton Police Department and Womanspace are seeking volunteers from Mercer County and beyond to join the police Domestic Victim Response Team.
Working with police officers, team members will be called out to meet victims of domestic violence and offer support, assistance, and guidance. In the immediate aftermath of a domestic violence incident, the volunteers will offer their services to help victims make decisions on how to move forward by themselves or with families.
Training begins March 5, where team members will be introduced to aspects of domestic violence law, sensitivity to victims’ needs, and how to give the right response promptly to families in crisis.
To apply, volunteers must be 18 years or older, have a valid driver’s license and available transportation, no criminal record, and be willing to attend the mandatory training and monthly meetings. People who are bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language are encouraged to join.
