on March 06, 2013 at 7:00 PM, updated March 06, 2013 at 7:01 PMTRENTON — Detectives and fire marshals are investigating three suspicious car fires that occurred on the same block in the Wilbur section over the last two weeks, police said.
Two of the vehicle blazes that happened Saturday have been declared arsons, Lt. Steve Varn said.
“Right now, it appears the vehicles were intentionally set on fire,” he said.
Police towed the three cars to their headquarters and are trying determine whether the first car fire, early on the morning of Feb. 23 on Hollywood Avenue, was intentional as well.
In that case, a Hyundai sport wagon was found burning around 2 a.m. The fire was immediately deemed suspicious.
On Saturday shortly after 3:30 a.m. firefighters who were called out found the two vehicles ablaze. A Ford Explorer was on fire in front of a home on the first block of Hollywood Avenue and flames were consuming a Toyota Camry several hundred feet away, near the intersection of Hollywood and Greenwood Avenue, Varn said.
Though firefighters quickly put out the blazes, both cars were extensively damaged. No injuries were reported.
Varn said three people wearing dark clothing were seen near one of the vehicles shortly before the March 2 car fire. Detailed suspect descriptions were not available.
