The 47-year-old victim was in the parking lot of the TD Bank on Rancocas Road shortly after noon when he was approached by two men, armed with at least a tire iron and possibly a baseball bat as well.
Saying, “Where’s the money, where’s the money,” the men took the change bucket away from the victim, police said.
The two men then ran to a Dodge Neon waiting for them with its driver at the wheel in a parking lot of Highland Drive and fled the scene, according to police. They then headed east on Rancocas Road toward the entrance to I-295 northbound, police said.
Township police obtained a description of the vehicle and put it out over police radio.
Within 15 minutes, troopers from the State Police’s Bordentown barracks pulled the suspects over on Route 130 in Bordentown, where the Neon was headed north on the highway.
When township police took the victim to the car stop scene, he was able to identify the car and two passengers as the men who robbed him. Inside the car were the bucket of quarters and tire iron, police said.
Arturo Delacruz, 34, and 21-year-old Marcos Santiago, the Trenton residents, along with 22-year-old Jose E. Diaz of Buffalo, NY were arrested. All three were charged with conspiracy for the robbery, while Santiago and Diaz were both additionally charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, robbery, and theft.
All three were taken to the Burlington County Jail when they could not make their $100,000 full cash bail.
