TRENTON – A street fight that left two people stabbed early today and a Sunday morning robbery where a man was slashed in the back were among the crimes committed with knives that wrapped up this weekend in the capital city, police said.

While no shootings were reported over the weekend, police are searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed a man, then cut him in the Mill Hill section around 2 a.m. Sunday.

The 49-year-old victim, a city resident, was in the area of South Broad Street and Market Street when the robbery occurred, Lt. Steve Varn said.

“When he was in the area of Mill Hill he was approached from behind by a suspect who demanded his money,” Varn said. “He gave the suspect some currency. The suspect then told him to leave the area.”

As the victim was leaving, the suspect came at him with a knife and delivered a cut to the man’s back, leaving behind a long laceration, Varn said. The victim fled to the 300 block of Hamilton Avenue, where police and an ambulance were called.

He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment and listed in stable condition. The wound was not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The suspect in the case is described as a black male in his mid-20s, 6 feet tall, medium-brown complexion, wearing dark colored clothing. No arrests have been made.

An apparent street fight where at least one knife and a blunt-force weapon were used left a total of three city men injured in Chambersburg Monday morning, police said.

Officers were near the corner of Elmer Street and Chestnut Avenue around 12:05 a.m. when they noticed a large crowd in the intersection, Varn said. When the police went over to investigate, they found a 31-year-old man with a severe head injury apparently caused by blunt force trauma.

Also at the crime scene were a man with a laceration to his abdomen, and a 25-year-old with stab wounds to his legs and back, according to police. All were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where the man with the laceration went into emergency surgery in critical condition. He was later upgraded to critical but stable.

While the 31-year-old’s head injury was considered severe, it is not believed to be life-threatening, Varn said. Police are seeking between six and seven men they believe were involved in the assault. Full descriptions were not available.
