TRENTON — A city man was shot in the pelvis during a street disturbance Saturday afternoon, police said today.

Police also released more information about a Thursday afternoon shooting that left two men wounded, saying at least one of the weapons used was a shotgun and that there were multiple assailants.

In that case, a van with the two victims was parked on Walnut Avenue and Monmouth Street when the suspects came up from behind the vehicle and opened fire, continuing to shoot as the van drove away.

“The van crashed into a parked vehicle,” Lt. Steve Varn said. “Apparently, after it crashed it drove away, and the van was recovered on Wall Street.”

The victims, both 25-year-old city men, were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where they were treated for their injuries and released. One man was shot in the buttocks, while the other suffered a wound to his back, Varn said.

During Saturday’s incident, police said an argument between two men led a third man to intervene, opening fire and shooting one of the men who had been arguing in the pelvis.

The disagreement began on the 500 block of Hoffman Avenue about 2:50 p.m. A 33-year-old city resident was arguing before he was shot by the gunman, who was not involved in the initial dispute.

The victim was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment of one gunshot wound to the pelvis, and listed in stable condition, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall and a medium build. Police are investigating.

TRENTON – A 49-year-old man who struck another man’s hand with the claw of a hammer was caught by an off-duty Mercer County sheriff’s officer at a North Trenton gas station late Sunday, police said.

Officer Janfon Lee was in the Exxon parking lot on New York Avenue a few minutes before midnight when city resident Willie Bacon ran by, chasing the man he had assaulted, police said.

“The sheriff’s officer intervened and detained all parties,” said Lt. Steve Varn, a Trenton police spokesman.

City police officers were called and arrested Bacon, who was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.

Police said the victim, a 49-year-old city resident, and Bacon were in a dispute on the block around the gas station when Bacon struck him with the hammer claw. The claw caused a “serious injury” to the victim’s hand, Varn said.

The victim was taken to nearby Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment. Officers recovered the hammer in the Exxon parking lot and confiscated it as evidence.
