21-year-old Trenton man is city’s eighth homicide victim, police say

on April 13, 2013 at 8:20 AM, updated April 13, 2013 at 8:28 AMTRENTON — Police continued their investigation into Trenton’s eighth homicide of the year yesterday, identifying the victim of the killing as a 21-year-old city man.
Police were still searching for leads in the shooting death of Cornelius Boakai, 21, which happened on Bryn Mawr Avenue Thursday night.
Boakai was inside a car on the street when he became involved in an argument with his killer, Sgt. Brian Cipolloni said.
The two struggled over a gun, which fired at least once and struck Boakai in the back. Boakai ran to the front yard of a home on the street just a few feet away from the car, where he collapsed and was found by police.
He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment and pronounced dead at 8 p.m.
No motive was released in the crime.
“Right now, the circumstances of the shooting are under investigation,” Lt. Steve Varn said.
No arrests have been made and no suspect descriptions released in the case.
