on April 19, 2013 at 1:46 PM, updated April 19, 2013 at 1:48 PMTRENTON — A shooting outside a North Trenton convenience store this morning left a man with three gunshot wounds, police said.
The victim was conscious, alert and talking to officers as he was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Lt. Mark Kieffer said. The man, thought to be in his early 30s, is expected to survive.
The shooting took place in front of the V & C Supermarket at the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Wayne Avenue.
Councilwoman Kathy McBride, whose mother lives two blocks away, came to the scene and deplored the ongoing violence in Trneton.
“Every day, every day the situation is getting worse,” McBride said.
She repeated her recent plea to Gov. Chris Christie for law enforcement officers from other counties to be deputized to battle crime in the city.
“I’m not too proud to beg, and right now, I’m begging,” she said. “I’m not too proud to beg for a child’s life.”
A full description of the suspect was not available. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police at (609) 989-4170 or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
