TRENTON — A 20-year-old city man was in critical but stable condition today following a shooting in the South Ward Thursday night, police said.

Wounded in the torso, the man was dropped off by car at Capital Health Regional Medical Center some time after the shooting was reported about 7:50 p.m. at Jersey Street and Home Avenue.

Thursday night’s gunplay happened yards away from where a fatal shooting April 5 left city resident Sidiq Howlen, 22, dead. Any connections between the drive-by shooting that took Howlen’s life and the more recent shooting are under investigation, Lt. Steve Varn said.

The 20-year-old was on the street when gunfire erupted, striking him and a car. The victim was not inside the car when he was shot, Varn said.

Police are still looking into the amount of shooters that may have been involved. Police recovered evidence of the shooting at the scene, and would not rule out an exchange of gunfire between two groups.

One suspect is described as a black male, 25, thin build, wearing a white T-shirt.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
