on April 29, 2013 at 11:14 PM, updated April 30, 2013 at 2:13 AMTRENTON – Two women were wounded tonight in a single shooting that left police guarding no fewer than three crime scenes throughout the East Ward.
One of the women was shot in the head during the assault, but early indications were that her wound was not life-threatening, police said.
“She’s alert, responsive, and talking,” Sgt. Leonard Sutton said.
That victim had arrived at St. Francis Medical Center shortly after the shooting, which happened around 9:30 p.m. Doctors at St. Francis were stabilizing her as of 11 p.m. so she could be taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, which is a designated trauma center.
The second victim was struck in the shoulder during the shooting, Sutton said, and arrived at the East District police substation on Cuyler Avenue seeking help.
Police were still trying to stitch together the different crime scenes, but believed the shooting itself happened on East State Street near the intersection with North Olden Avenue.
“There’s indications a car was involved,” Sutton said.
Police had designated half a block from the liquor store near Olden past the parking lot of a bank a crime scene. Officers were seeking shell casings and other evidence, with flashlights casting beams on the wet pavement.
At the East District, police were guarding a car outside in the light drizzle, the driver’s side window shattered and the door open. And at St. Francis Medical Center, police were on scene guarding an SUV possibly associated with the victim in the shooting who had sought treatment there.
As police secured these crime scenes, officers also had to be sent to a major fire on Prospect Street, where they blocked off streets for traffic and assisted firefighters.
No suspect descriptions were available in the shootings and no arrests were immediately reported. Anyone with information on the case should call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
