TRENTON – Two shootings a block and a half away from each other in the city’s Wilbur section left two men wounded barely 12 hours apart today, police said.

The pair of shootings come the day after a man was shot several times on Morton Alley, which is yards away from both crime scenes. Police had no information to suggest the crimes were connected.

“Not at this time,” Lt. Mark Kieffer said, “However we analyze crime hourly and due to our crime patterns we move manpower accordingly.”

In today’s first shooting around 2:15 a.m. at the corner of Hampton Avenue and Tioga Street, a 17-year-old male was shot in the left shoulder.

“He was walking down the street when an unknown individual began firing a handgun at him,” Kieffer said.

The teen victim was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by car for treatment, then later released. He could not give police a full description of the suspect who shot him, but said he heard three shots.

The second shooting in the area came around 2:45 p.m., on the side of a house on the 100 block of South Cook Avenue near the intersection with Euclid Avenue. Witnesses told police two men were arguing in the street when at least one of them brandished a handgun and began shooting.

“It is unclear at this point in time whether there was a second weapon involved,” Lt. Ed Gonzalez said last night.

Police were first called out to Cuyler Avenue near Greenwood Avenue, where a person was reportedly shot in the chest, but the victim got a ride to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. There, doctors found the bullet had entered near his chest and passed through his body, Gonzalez said.

The victim was in stable condition last night and expected to survive, police said.
