TRENTON — An 18-year-old city man was shot in the leg by a suspect who approached him from behind Thursday evening in North Trenton, police said today.

The teen was on the 900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 7 p.m. when the shooting happened.

“He was just walking down the street and heard shots, and he was struck,” Lt. Mark Kieffer said.

The 18-year-old was struck once in his right thigh. He later told police he did not get a good look at his assailant. A concerned citizen driving by took the victim to nearby Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where doctors treated his wound and police were called.
The 18-year-old’s injuries were not believed to be serious.

TRENTON — Two separate shooting incidents this evening left one dead and one injured during an afternoon of brief violence in the city.

The first shooting, was the city’s 12th homicide after an unknown male was shot at the Roger Gardens Public Housing Complex on Oakland Street just after 5 p.m., Trenton police Lt. Edelmiro Gonzalez said.

The shooting occurred during a dispute between several individuals.

“At one point one of them pulled out a weapon and fired it several times striking the victim across the body,” Gonzalez said.

There is no other information at this time about the victim, or the suspect, he said.

Police tape lined the entrance to the courtyard of the complex as police were on scene investigating.

Police are looking for a young black male between 18 and 20 who fled on foot toward Coolidge Avenue, he said.

The second incident occurred shortly after, around 5:35 p.m., when a vehicle drove by a group of individuals standing at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Beaks Street.

An individual exited the vehicle and approached the group.

The two groups then began firing at each other, Gonzalez said.

One person was shot in the foot and transported to the hospital by an unknown party.
The victim is listed in stable condition, Gonzalez said.

There is no indication at this time that the two incidents are connected, but police are investigating that angle, particularly because of the time sequence of the two, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Trenton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation’s Bureau at (609) 989-4155.
