TRENTON — Two men are in critical condition but expected to survive following separate shootings in Trenton’s East Ward late Saturday and early Sunday, police said.

Those shootings came as 30-year-old Garious Denard Burton remained in “extremely critical” condition after he was shot in the forehead early Saturday, also in the East Ward, said Lt. Steve Varn, head of the department’s detective bureau. Police were still investigating the circumstances of Burton’s shooting.

The most recent shooting occurred early Sunday on the 1000 block of Greenwood Avenue as a 22-year-old man was walking with three acquaintances, police said.

“An unknown individual or individuals ended up firing numerous shots in their direction,” Varn said. “It was at that time the victim was struck.”

The 22-year-old Trenton man shot in the back. He was dropped off at Capital Health Regional Medical Center on Brunswick Avenue around 2:25 a.m. Whoever drove him there did not wait to be interviewed by doctors or the police, Varn said.

Police were able to identify the acquaintances of the victim who were with him, and interviewed them later in the day. No suspect descriptions were available, and police yesterday were still unsure about the number of shooters who took part in the attack. The 22-year-old’s injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening, Varn said.

Several hours earlier, a 20-year-old Trenton man was shot on Saturday in Chambersburg.

Police said the man was on the 300 block of Elmer Street just before 9 p.m. when he was struck in the stomach. He ran over to friends of his who were in the area, and they took him to the hospital, Varn said.

Following emergency surgery, the 20-year-old was in critical, but stable condition, Varn said. There was no apparent motive and no suspect in the shooting.
