Trenton police seek volunteers to reach out to domestic violence victims

on July 05, 2013 at 9:26 AMTRENTON — The police department and Womanspace, a local non-profit that provides services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, are seeking volunteers to join the department’s Domestic Violence Victim Response Team.
The volunteers will work with Trenton police to give support and information during domestic violence crisis situations, according to a press release regarding the program.
The team members will meet with domestic violence victims at police headquarters and be able to give information and support for victims. In 2012 the team assisted with 732 people, according to the release.
Interested volunteers who are at least 18 years old, have no criminal history, have a valid driver’s license and transportation, and an ability to communicate with sensitive victims are asked to apply by Aug. 1.
Applicants will have to submit information for a background check and interview and must be available to attend training scheduled to begin on Sept. 4 as well as monthly meetings.
Bilingual individuals and those people fluent in American Sign Language are encouraged to apply.
