State center to help Mercer County small businesses prepare for disasters
By Times of Trenton Staff Writers
on August 02, 2013 at 6:50 AMSmall businesses around Mercer County will get support preparing for disasters such as hurricanes and fires from the state’s Small Business Development Center, officials said yesterday.
Businesses will be visited by a community business representative, whose fees will be paid for using a grant intended to help small businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy, the center said in a press release.
The representative will discuss with business owners a disaster plan of action that is intended to reduce the impact of business interruption, minimize risk and protect employees, the release said.
“We want to establish ourselves as part of the community, help businesses relate to what they need to know and then provide them the help,” representative Don Addison said in the release.
Addison has already visited 107 businesses in Ewing, Lawrence and Princeton. He will continue to go door-to-door and provide services in English to small businesses, the release said.
Services in Spanish will be provided in Trenton and Hightstown.
The center will provide one-on-one, free counseling to businesses in business continuity, risk management, media, marketing, human resources, legal, accounting, training and strategic needs assessment, the release said.
