TRENTON — The city’s long-anticipated ethics board got down to business at its first meeting tonight, electing officers and proposing a code of conduct for itself.

Stephen Slusher, an attorney, was voted the board’s chair, while longtime civic watchdog Jim Carlucci was named secretary. Both votes for the one-year terms were unanimous and unopposed.

During the public meeting, members discussed scheduling a meeting with the state Department of Community Affairs as well as using the small office space they are authorized to have in the basement of police headquarters.

But the main issue was the adoption of the board’s own ethics code, one based closely on state statute, which was introduced tonight. It will have a public hearing at the next meeting before the board puts it to a final vote.
