TRENTON — A 65-year-old bank robber was caught Friday morning in the midst of a hold-up by an alert retired Hamilton police officer who was working as a security officer inside Roma Bank, police said.

The teller at the bank branch on the 400 block of Hamilton Avenue was handing cash over to city resident Henry Kidd, who made the employee believe he had a gun, Lt. Mark Kieffer said today.

Instead, the armed security officer, alerted by the actions of the teller and others behind the counter as they brought cash to Kidd, pushed Kidd against the wall, thwarting his plans and holding Kidd until police could arrive to make an arrest, Kieffer said.

No injuries were reported, Kieffer said.
