School Development Authority asks court to throw out Trenton school board’s lawsuit

on October 10, 2013 at 9:35 PMTRENTON — The agency in charge of spending for repairs to the dilapidated Trenton Central High School has asked a Mercer County judge to throw out the school board’s lawsuit filed in August that claims the state School Development Authority is taking too long to fix up the school.
The SDA said in its court motion, filed this month, that the school board exceeded its deadlines for filing the suit and ought to go through the state administrative channels to address its grievances.
Students, teachers and faculty members have said the high school roof leaks, there is mold throughout the building and paint peels off the walls. They say brown water spews from water fountains and sinks fed by rusty pipes. School officials say they are concerned that the long-standing conditions at the school threaten the health and safety of students.
In the August lawsuit, the school board asked the court to force the SDA to either expedite repairs or give the school district the money it needs to do the repairs itself.
The SDA is tasked with funding and coordinating school building and repair projects for poor districts in the state.
