on October 17, 2013 at 12:34 PM, updated October 17, 2013 at 12:56 PMTRENTON — Nine people, including six New Jersey residents, have been arrested as part of a take down of a Jamaican-based drug ring that was shipping cocaine from California to New Jersey, the State Police said today.
Authorities said the operation, run by Andrew Davis, 34, of Kingston, Jamaica, sent large quantities of the drug across the country to Marsha Bernard, 28, of Cherry Hill, who received the shipments and coordinated distribution to traffickers in the state.
Bernard then sent proceeds back to Davis in Jamaica and his brother, Kemar, 22, of Hollywood, Calif., the State Police said. The ring was uncovered in March 2011 after detectives in Camden and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office seized a shipment.
“This investigation gradually uncovered a complicated puzzle of money and drugs, and locked up the people responsible for injecting large drug shipments into our communities,” State Police Superintendent Col. Rick Fuentes said.
In total, detectives recovered more than 26 kilograms of cocaine worth approximately $780,000, State Police said, as well as two handguns and more than $600,000 cash. The investigation revealed those seizures were just a fraction of what the Davis brothers were trafficking into the state.
