Assembly candidate calls for jobs for disabled

HAMILTON — Republican Assembly candidate Steve Cook this week announced a plan to ensure that 3 percent of state contracts for certain goods and services are set aside for people with disabilities, especially veterans returning from combat.

In a press release, Cook said the plan would let those with special needs earn self-respect and a paycheck while saving taxpayers money.

McCoy endorsed by NFL linebacker

HAMILTON — Democratic council candidate Tennille McCoy was endorsed this week by Jonathan Vilma, linebacker for the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League.

Vilma, a McCoy family friend, said he supported her leadership skills and commitment to township residents, her campaign announced in a news release.

Greenstein endorsed by women’s group

HAMILTON — State Sen. Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro) was endorsed last week by Emily’s List, a national resource for women in politics.

In a news release, Emily’s List political director Denise Feriozzi called Greenstein a “champion for women.”

Gore gets fire union endorsement

HAMILTON — Council President Ed Gore received the endorsement of the township’s professional fire unions last week.

In a letter, Professional Firefighters Association Local 84 president Robert Layton and Professional Fire Officers Association Local 284 president Nicholas Buroczi complimented Gore for remaining “dedicated to the public.”

Assembly candidates call for debate

Assembly candidates Steve Cook, a Republican, and Sean O’Connor, a Libertarian, challenged their incumbent opponents to a debate this week.

While the Mid Jersey Chamber of Commerce recently held a debate between Sen. Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro) and her Republican opponent, former state Sen. Peter Inverso, no event is scheduled including Assemblymen Dan Benson and Wayne DeAngelo (both D-Hamilton).

Fundraiser for Mercer County freeholder candidate

TRENTON — Republican candidate Ron Cefalone will hold a fundraiser on Thursday to support his election to the Mercer County freeholder board.

The event will be held at Big Easy Restaurant, at 120 S. Warren Street in Trenton, on Thursday at 6 p.m.

It is sponsored by Eddie Baldassari, John Cipriano and Danny Toto.
