TRENTON — An attorney for the school board said yesterday parties in the battle over repairs to the dilapidated Trenton Central High School would sit down and try to work together for a speedier solution, in compliance with a Superior Court judge’s request.

“The court will defer any ruling and see if the professionals can work something out,” Richard Shapiro said after Judge Douglas Hurd called rival attorneys in for a conference before a scheduled hearing yesterday morning and urged them to come up with a resolution.

The school board sued the state Schools Development Authority in August, arguing that it is taking too long to make repairs to the 81-year-old school. The district claims that because the state has held up repairs the leaking roof, mold and other problems at the school are unhealthy and unsafe for teachers, students and staff. The SDA has fought the suit, saying the district did not try to work within the SDA’s administrative process to resolve the timeline.
