Fire extinguished inside Trenton sanitation building

on November 05, 2013 at 12:00 AM, updated November 05, 2013 at 12:04 AMTRENTON—Trenton fire officials extinguished a fire in a garbage truck parked inside the city’s sanitation building last night, they said.
“A garbage truck had garbage that was not fully evacuated. A fire might have smoldered throughout the day in there,” Battalion Chief Michael Welsh said. “Due to the fire, the controls that would release the garbage were not able to offload it. It was extinguished while the garbage was still inside.”
After an alarm went off inside the building on Calhoun Street, the alarm company notified the Trenton Police Department who were called to the scene at 7:33 p.m. to investigate a possible burglary, Welsh said.
