Times Holiday Appeal benefits Meals on Wheels of Trenton/Ewing, which serves 200 meals each day

Elderly individuals who were left in their own homes became frail and unable to get out and shop or cook for themselves.
Their families had moved far away or they just didn’t have family. No one even asked about them after awhile. As the senior citizens stayed longer in their homes without the ability to eat properly, they became malnourished, ill and even died due to starvation.
This also was a problem here in the greater Trenton area, and the VNA called the community to action.
To pattern itself after the newly formed Meals on Wheels Association of America, Mobile Meals of Trenton was formed in April 1973 through the joint efforts of the VNA, civic leaders and Trenton Ecumenical Action Ministry (TEAM).
This new agency would deliver hot nutritious meals to the homebound of Trenton (and later Ewing) so that they could age in place, helping these seniors to remain healthy, and sparing their families and communities the expense and emotional toll of more acute care such as a nursing home.
