President of cash-strapped Trenton Babe Ruth League hopeful indoor batting cages will be built

TRENTON — George Bleistein stirs the creamer into his coffee at Pat’s Diner in Trenton, thinking about whether he wants the story told.

The 84-year-old has just come off another successful season of fall ball with his city chapter of the Babe Ruth League. His players respect him, his coaches love his wry humor.

But for Bleistein, the cash-strapped league is lucky to field a team each season. And Bleistein has been recovering from a clogged artery that needed risky surgery to repair. The 8-inch surgical scar from his ear to the base of his neck is visible as he silently thinks through what he wants to say.
