Employee overtime for controversial Thanksgiving Parade in Trenton to cost more than $5,000

TRENTON – The city’s controversial Thanksgiving Parade scheduled for this Saturday will cost more than $5,000 in employee overtime, according to city department directors.

Trenton’s police department has called on 11 officers and one sergeant to cover the event, said Police Director Ralph Rivera Jr. In the city’s Department of Public Works, Director Luis Mollinedo said he has brought on crews to sweep the streets before the event, set up bleachers and stages, and clean up afterwards.

The parade, which was requested by Mayor Tony Mack and mayoral aide Anthony Roberts, is not funded in the city’s budget and council members have refused to put city money toward the event. Roberts has said that the event will be funded through private donations.
