Report finds Mercer County hospitals bring in $1.25B, employ almost 7,000 people

TRENTON — Area hospitals continue to be a boon to the economy in Mercer County, attracting more than $1.25 billion to the region last year and employing approximately 7,000 individuals full time, according to a report released yesterday by the New Jersey Hospital Association.

The report, which looks at 72 acute care hospitals in the state and their economic impact in 2012, shows that the hospitals spent $20.4 billion, up nearly 14 percent from 2011, and health care continues to be a growing industry in the state, NJHA officials said.

“New Jersey hospitals remain a strong and reliable source of jobs, salaries and spending, demonstrating that they are bedrocks of our state and local economies” said NJHA president and CEO Betsy Ryan.
