Devon Hewitt, also known by his nickname “Flash,” was killed inside the house on the 100 block of Phillips Avenue, where he would spend nights socializing with his friends, drinking, gambling and having a good time, said his girlfriend, who did not want her name used.
Last night on Phillips Avenue, Hewitt’s girlfriend was composed, while Hewitt’s 13-year-old daughter was in tears and barely able to talk.
“It didn’t hit yet,” the girlfriend explained.
But her reserve cracked when she was asked how the loss makes her feel.
“It hurts,” she said, as tears appeared in her eyes. “A lot.”
Police gave details of the killing, which is the city’s second homicide this week, but would not confirm the victim’s name as of press time. Detectives were seeking one suspect they believed to be the shooter but did not have a description, Lt. Steve Varn said last night.
