Witness in Trenton Mayor Tony Mack’s corruption trial was almost set to run city’s recycling program

TRENTON — Mayor Tony Mack’s aborted in-house recycling program was set to be run by former water meter reader Charles Hall III, who has since admitted involvement with Mack in an alleged bribery scheme that led to the mayor’s indictment, a former campaign adviser said.

Hall was taking courses at Rutgers University paid for by the city to get his certification for the $80,000 per-year coordinator’s job, records show.

Mack’s administration proposed dropping Mercer County as Trenton’s recycling provider in April 2012 in favor of a service run by the city. Hall, who admitted guilt in federal court earlier this year, took recycling courses at Rutgers in the spring semester of 2012 at a cost to the city of just over $1,000, records show.
