For Smith, who moved into his new, larger unit two weeks ago, it is not the new washer and dryers or dishwasher that is exciting, but having more space for his family of four with a baby on the way.
“My two girls finally got into their own room, their own space,” Smith said.
His daughters, ages 4 and 6 were sharing a room in their two bedroom apartment in the city’s downtown historic district.
Now they have moved into a three bedroom apartment.
Smith said he appreciates living in a converted historic building because it makes him feel connected to his city’s history.
“I’ve always loved the city of Trenton,” Smith said. “I love the history of the city. I have had Trenton pride my whole life.”
All of the apartments owned by Pennrose Property, a Philadelphia-based development company, as part of the Academy Place community are renovated historic buildings that are rented to moderate and low income families, said Tim Henkel senior vice president at Pennrose.
