From sludge to green: Food waste recycling facility planned at former sewage processing plant
By Brendan McGrath/The Times of Trenton
on November 24, 2013 at 7:33 AMTRENTON — As he stood on the roof of the seven-story high sludge plant on Duck Island, Brian Blair pointed across the Delaware River to a trifecta of waste — two landfills and an incinerator sitting just south of Trenton on the other side of the water.
These will be among his company’s competitors.
Trenton Biogas, of which Blair is the chief operating officer, plans to purchase the never-used sewage processing plant and transform it into a food waste recycling facility.
The project involves some risk, because to be successful it has to be done on a large scale, and right now very little organic waste recycling is going on except in the commercial food industry.
