Trenton Fire Dept. captain steps down after 32 years

He grew up in a fire fighting family. His mother was president of Pennington Road Volunteer Fire Company in Ewing. His father fought blazes as part of the Prospect Heights Volunteer Fire Company, also in the township.
“The bell would go off, and my dad would go to the firehouse and my mom would put us in the car,” Lester said Tuesday. “I’ve been going to fires since I was 4 years old.”
Fifty years later, Lester was still answering the call on Tuesday night, his last shift after 32 years as a Trenton firefighter. Lester hopped into Engine 10 for a run to Cuyler Avenue for smoke in an apartment building. It turned out to be careless cooking.
