State school board official after seeing Trenton Central High School’s conditions: “In my district, they would have had a revolution”

TRENTON — He had to see it for himself. That is what brought state school board Vice President Joe Fisicaro to Trenton Central High School yesterday afternoon to tour the 81-year-old building, which students, teachers and staff complain is rundown and unsafe.

“In my district, they would have had a revolution,” Fisicaro said. “We would have parents all over the place.”

Fisicaro, a resident of Eve-sham in Burlington County, was appointed vice president of the state school board in September. He said he was asked to come and tour the schools by elected officials who gave testimony at a school board meeting earlier this year, the high school’s Parent Teacher Association and teachers and union leaders from Trenton.

PTA president Mike Goodman said he hopes that Fisicaro will be the eyes for the state to see that renovations are long past due at the school.

“They have the power to develop the plans and protect the heath and safety of the students,” he said. “I’m hoping he can be the eyes for the school board and see firsthand the depth of issues here.”
