TCNJ students update political website for Trenton residents

EWING — For many students at The College of New Jersey, Trenton is a word on road signs and a city with a train station, but it has little other immediate relevance.

Many students at the suburban school do not follow politics below the state level, and while the vast majority know that Trenton is the state’s capital and can identify it as the home of the Statehouse and the governor’s office, few could name elected officials there.

But this fall, some TCNJ students have learned a lot about Trenton politics by helping Trenton-based Beautiful Trenton, a grassroots coalition of city residents, spread the word about local issues and candidates in the mayoral and council election to be held May 6.

The students are enrolled in the course Introduction to Interactive Multimedia, which is popular among students in journalism and professional writing, interactive multimedia, and other majors.

Beautiful Trenton has a website on elections, candidates and political issues, but it is out-of-date, with references to the 2010 election.
