Incidents of bullying at Mercer County schools drop 30 percent from last year, report finds

HAMILTON — No longer a flavor-of-the-month challenge for school officials, anti-bullying has become the norm for school districts across the state.

Addressing incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying — grouped together as “HIB” incidents — has become an integral part of school planning and reporting, with new programs instituted each year focused solely on promoting respect between students.

Between the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years, HIB incidents dropped about 30 percent in Mercer County, according to statistics released last week by the state Department of Education.
