N.J. Senate confirms Robert Hanna as Superior Court judge

on January 13, 2014 at 7:40 PM, updated January 13, 2014 at 7:46 PMAs Gov. Chris Christie’s choice for state Supreme Court judge, Robert Hanna waited a year for a confirmation hearing that never came. Senate Democrats blocked his selection and another Christie nominee to fill a different seat on the high court, fearing they would cause partisan imbalance.
Tonight, the state Senate confirmed Hanna as a state Superior Court judge, just 10 days after Christie nominated him to that post. He and six other Superior Court nominees were confirmed as a block, 25-7. Judges usually serve in the county of their residence — Morris in Hanna’s case — although that will be announced later.
Hanna, 55, who has been president of the state Board of Public Utilities for two years, had been a top federal and state prosecutor who followed Christie to Trenton after working with him at the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Christie has not yet named Hanna’s replacement at the BPU.
