Business Technology Instructor Position with Isles Youth Institute

Job Title: Business Technology Instructor General Summary

The Business Technology Instructor is responsible for providing a student-centered educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. The Business Technology Instructor is required to work collaboratively to plan, prepare and implement instructional activities to engage and facilitate student success. The Business Technology Instructor tracks and analyzes student performance data and develops learning plans using resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and developmental needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Training high school students for career opportunities in the information processing and computer field, which includes, but is not limited to, introduction to computers, keyboarding, business applications software and work area safety.
  • Provide the basic competencies so that students can gain entry level employment in a job that requires the use of computers and business application software.
  • Use program curriculum and develop and use a defined course syllabus, outline and lab exercises to make sure learning goals and objectives are being met.
  • Provide and maintain a system of student records and provide program reporting as required.
  • Follow institutional policies and procedures and provide vigilant classroom/lab area supervision of the students.
  • Supervise the students by providing escort, movement control, key control and tool control, and immediately report any incident.
  • Use teacher lectures, demonstrations, and laboratory exercise to support each class.
  • Reinforce basic computer skills by using Microsoft Office applications to present learning materials.
  • Provide a safe working environment and learning atmosphere
  • Screen and interview prospective students to make sure they meet the required enrollment qualifications.
  • Counsel students with regard to their personal and professional development
  • Perform monthly evaluations on student progress
  • Discipline students and hold them accountable to perform acceptable coursework

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Technology, Business or related fields
  • Valid NJ Professional Teaching Certificate in content area
  • One year successful teaching experience within subject area
  • Three years teaching experience preferred

  • Operational knowledge of the Internet and Web-related technologies
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Work independently with little direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on group projects and work as part of a team
  • Must be responsible, accountable and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic to achieve school goals
  • Display effective prioritizing, organizing, and time-management skills; ability to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to learn and apply all required and recommended computer applications to create efficiency and consistency in internal workflows and instructional practices
  • Ability to work with students in an urban setting
  • Knowledge or project-based learning

Working Schedule:

  • Typically four days per week, 7 hours per day for a maximum of 28 hours per week
  • One hour paid lunch
  • Evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to travel to attend national conferences, professional development classes, or meetings.
