TRENTON, NJ – 200 Trenton residents, AmeriCorps, VISTA, TCNJ students, TCHS, and Isles YouthBuild students are expected to turn out on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Volunteers will sort clothes, prepare sandwiches, paint murals, and participate in other beautification projects at local nonprofits in the city. Volunteers will serve at local nonprofit organizations including Anchor House, Habitat for Humanity Restore, Dress for Success, Martin House Thrift Store, and Kingsbury Corporation’s Twin Towers.
The day will begin with a welcoming address by Samuel T. Frisby, Mercer County Freeholder and CEO of the Trenton YMCA, and Councilwoman Phyllis Holly-Ward, Trenton City Council President.
The day of service, organized by the Trenton Cities of Service initiative, will leverage the strength of local citizens to help tackle local issues and advance Dr. King’s dream of opportunity for all. Volunteers in Trenton will join hundreds of thousand of Americans participating in MLK Day of Service projects in all fifty states. This national day of service honors Dr. King’s legacy and commitment to transforming our nation through service to others. The day of service is an excellent opportunity for Americans to help advance economic opportunity and take action to solve problems in their communities.
