on January 16, 2014 at 10:38 PM, updated January 16, 2014 at 10:40 PMTRENTON — The city will fight a $44,000 payment to the chairwoman of the board that formerly oversaw the city hotel, an attorney said at tonight’s city council meeting.
Business Administrator Sam Hutchinson said the city would be filing a motion opposing the payment of any money to Joyce Kersey, who was appointed to be the independent trustee of the Lafayette Yard Community Development Corp.
The board was formed to oversee the former Trenton Marriott, which was built on public land using city-backed bonds.
“When we first got that notice, we hit the ceiling,” Hutchinson said.
Kersey has said that she has done a lot of work outside of her regular duties of a volunteer board member since the hotel filed for bankruptcy. She said she would not continue to do the work that is needed to see the bankruptcy process through and dissolve the corporation if she were not paid.
