LAWRENCE — The Princeton Area Community Foundation announced this week 18 nonprofits in Mercer County will receive grants totaling $460,000.

The funds, issued through the competitive grant program Greater Mercer Grants, are awarded twice yearly to nonprofits to help support community service or specific programs that help low-income individuals and families.

Trenton’s Isles received the largest award of $50,000 for work on the 130,000-square-foot Mill One Nonprofit Center, an abandoned former textile mill on North Johnston Avenue in Hamilton that will encompass arts spaces, private businesses, and 45 housing units when it is finished.

The building currently houses training and warehouse uses, and Isles seeks to begin occupying offices, and constructing studios and flex spaces sometime between April and June.

“These grants are made possible through generous community members — individuals, corporations and foundations — who come together to support the well being of our region and its most vulnerable citizens,” Community Foundation President Nancy Kieling said.

CityWorks received $40,000 for the East Trenton Collaborative, a partnership of organizations working to improve city neighborhoods, and Artworks Trenton was given $35,000 for its visual arts center.
