Trenton council pulls recreation department contracts from agenda

Councilwoman Phyllis Holly-Ward requested that the four resolutions be pulled from the agenda, saying she would like to allow her fellow council members time to read over the public contracts law before voting on paying the contracts.
Three of the contracts — for improvements to Calhoun Street Park, Hetzel Field Park and Greg Grant Park — were put out to bid in October and a winning bidder was selected, but the contracts were never brought to council for approval. All three contracts were given extensions from the contractors, saying they would still do the work at the same price, but business administrator Sam Hutchinson said he was unable to explain the delay.
Hutchinson said he refuses to sign any resolutions from the recreation department, which is overseen by the mayor’s office and effectively run by mayoral aide Anthony Roberts.
