Harrison Academy in Trenton to close because of poor enrollment
Jenna Pizzi / 2/12/2014
The district’s alternative middle school program will close at the end of the month because of poor enrollment, the district’s superintendent said today.
Superintendent Francisco Duran said the program, known as Harrison Academy, was funded to educate 80 students, but there are fewer than half of that number enrolled.
“By closing at the end of the month we will save $1.5 million between February and June,” Duran said.
He said he will formally recommend that the district end the program at the next school board meeting on Feb. 24, when the board members will vote on the matter.
