Trenton City Council approves $183.7M budget for 2014
By Jenna Pizzi/The Times of Trenton
on March 07, 2014 at 9:36 PMTRENTON — City council approved a $183.7 million city budget for 2014, which is $2 million more than last year and includes a 9-cent tax hike.
At their Thursday meeting, council voted in favor of the budget, with only Councilwoman Kathy McBride voting against the measure.
McBride said the budget, which includes $22.86 million in state aid, does not do enough to lower the tax obligation for homeowners and does not include enough new revenue.
“We keep going back to the same people,” McBride said. “And that is just not fair.”
She said for three years she has been trying to work with the administration to propose new revenue-generating ideas, but all have gone ignored or fallen flat.
