Trenton Boys and Girls Club Bike Exchange opens for 6th season in Ewing

The Trenton Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange was buzzing once again with the clanging of bike chains and hissing of air pumps as it opened for its sixth season in Capitol Plaza Shopping Center on Saturday.
Over the past five years, the bike exchange has sold almost 9,000 bikes at low prices to low-income families, with all of the profits benefiting the Trenton Boys & Girls Club.
“It’s far exceeded our expectations,” founder Russ White said. “At the beginning, we didn’t know if it would stay open more than two months.”
The bike exchange is an all-volunteer program that collects, repairs and sells donated bicycles. An intern program allows young volunteers to learn bicycle maintenance before working as a mechanic, and the bike exchange currently consists of about 100 volunteers, according to White.
After expenses, the exchange has raised $415,124 for the Trenton Boys & Girls Club in the last five seasons.
