Editorial: TCNJ satellite office in Trenton opens another door to city

Spring’s here, and new life is surging from waving branches, warming soil and winter-weary lawns.

There are signs of new life in Trenton as well as The College of New Jersey’s recently established satellite office begins to pulse with the energy of young people and purpose.

The move, which follows the opening of TCNJ’s Bonner Center, is a further foray into an urban landscape too many others have forsaken. Expected to help advance the Bonner Center’s ongoing projects, the satellite office is another step toward ensuring the college’s programs are accessible.

As Times staffer Jenna Pizzi reported last week, setting up shop in the three-story Trenton Works building at South Broad and State streets is an effort to enhance civic engagement with space for everything from classes, lectures, movie screenings and workspace.

It’s an invitation to the community, according to college officials who foresee programs that include citizenship assistance for immigrants, a forum for guest speakers and other events geared toward an urban setting.
