on March 28, 2014 at 7:00 AM, updated March 28, 2014 at 7:16 AMTRENTON — In the hopes of reducing the high unemployment rate in the city, Mercer County officials are working closely with Amazon.com to give qualified job seekers in the area a fair shot at applying for a job at the company’s 1.2 million-square-foot warehouse in Robbinsville, expected to open early this summer.
“If someone is qualified and someone is willing and someone really needs to get on the first step of the economic ladder, we want to make that as easy as possible,” County Executive Brian Hughes said about streamlining the application process. “Especially in areas like Trenton that has seen a lot of its manufacturing base go away and jobs for young people continue to shrink.”
Amazon anticipates hiring 1,400 full-time workers to staff its “fulfillment center” at the Matrix Business Park at 7A on Old York Road. Starting today, Amazon is accepting applications for its dock clerk and trainer positions and in late April, will begin filling its fulfillment associate and lead fulfillment associate positions.
Job descriptions and applications can be found on the county’s website, which will be updated as new positions are posted. The county’s one-stop career center, located at 26 Yard Ave. in Trenton, will also help match jobseekers to open positions.
