Trenton superintendent discusses success of school breakfast program at summit

TRENTON β€” State Agriculture Secretary Douglas Fisher today joined school administrators from the city and around the state to explore ways to expand a school breakfast program.

Fisher said studies have shown that students perform better when they are learning on a full stomach and the most effective way to ensure students are eating in the morning is to offer breakfast in the classrooms.

β€œIt just makes common sense,” Fisher said.

Trenton Superintendent Francisco Duran told those attending the Garden State Breakfast Summit, held at the Lafayette Yard Hotel today, that the city had to overcome a number of obstacles to get the program running, but the number of students starting the school day with a meal has increased.
