The city water utility’s aging and understaffed system bleeds 7 million gallons daily — 28 percent of the total it pumps — before water gets to homes, businesses, or the meters that help the city calculate the money it is owed, a report by the Delaware River Basin Commission found.
Trenton Water Works provides water service to Trenton and areas of Hamilton, Ewing, Lawrence and Hopewell townships.
The two other, much smaller utilities in Mercer which provided data reported a lower loss rate: Aqua New Jersey: Hamilton was at 12 percent, while Aqua New Jersey: Lawrence loses about 20 percent of its water withdrawal, said the report, released on Monday.
