Reinstated Trenton fire director expresses gratitude to community for support

TRENTON — To Qareeb Bashir, the action of Thursday night’s city council meeting was more than just a vote — it was justice.

Nearly a week after the fire director was stripped of his position by acting Mayor George Muschal, council unanimously voted to reinstate him at the helm of the Trenton Fire Department — proof, Bashir said, that he was right in his belief that he was wrongfully terminated.

“As people really examine the facts and take out their personal feelings, I think it’s very clear cut and there’s no justification for my removal,” Bashir said. “I love the city of Trenton, I love the people and I love the job, and I’m going to always try to do my best and do the right thing, the right way at the right time, and that’s my intention.”

“Will I make some mistakes along the way? Yes. But I will hope that no one will ever question my sincerity.”
